Little California
It was in 1980 that a few good people from the Glariers district, which was slightly on the edge of the city of Agaune, felt the need to strengthen ties to improve the quality of life in their immediate environment. This neighborhood, which was once the poorest in the city, has evolved. Its rather optimistic inhabitants, inventorying their public fortune, had finally found that it was certainly not California but Little California... A committee was composed in a very democratic way to prepare the elaboration of a plan of animations and this is how the inhabitants of the district meet for various events among which an annual party, the children's Christmas and Carnival. During the municipal development of the space next to the new "Pont Sarrasin", Little California proposed to the Municipality to baptize "in its name" this nice square. The town council accepted this proposal...on the condition that it would not be a flash in the pan! Many buildings have been renovated and the contemporary art gallery "Espace Contre-Contre" is now located there.
