Abbey
A place of great significance for Christianity, Saint-Maurice Abbey presents passing guests with a precious collection of silver and gold that demonstrates its historical wealth and influence. This treasure reveals the intensity of worship devoted to the remains of the martyrs of the Theban Legion conserved in magnificent reliquaries, mostly masterpieces of mediaeval gold and silverwork.
It houses a congregation of Canons Regular of Saint Augustine, who are active in the liturgy and ministry to parishes, teaching and missions.
Between contemplation and wonder, a visit to the basilica, the treasury, the archaeological excavations, the catacombs and the cloisters retraces almost 1500 years of continuous monastic life.
