Gloriette

Remains of a middle-class country house on the outskirts of town.

La Gloriette is an octagonal garden pavilion built between 1775 and 1793 by Etienne-Louis Macognin de la Pierre. It was intended for country receptions, which were fashionable at the time. In addition to its picturesque appeal, the building is also architecturally interesting, almost unique in the history of Valais architecture.

The building has had several functions over the years, serving as a private country residence before becoming a primary school, a seraphic school, a home for elderly nuns and servants without a place to live, an artist's studio, and more.
